Simon Zabell was born in Spain to a family of English immigrants in 1970, he studied Painting and Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Granada, and Theatre Design at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Since the late 1990's Zabell has been developing and exhibiting art projects with a strong narrative inclination, focusing on making the viewer feel he or she is the protagonist of the fiction. Often these projects have been based on previous works by other creators, such as writer Alain Robbe-Grillet.
Recent solo shows include Rema at CACMálaga, La Casa de Hong Kong at Espacio Iniciarte in Seville and La Jalousie at Centro José Guerrero in Granada. Upcoming projects include an installation based on filmwork by Japanese director Yosujiro Ozu to be shown at the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (Andalusian Centre for Contemporary Art), and an ambitious series of paintings based on compositions by musical composer Karlheinz Stockhausen.
Simon Zabell lives and works in the Spanish city of Granada, where he is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts.
